Let me write something that this close from my backyard. We have been living in this town for four years and we haven't participated on any of its events. Why am I not surprised?
Couple of months ago, we were scrambling to get all paperwork done for Maddie's christening. As my usual last minute self, I called on the godmothers to get their sponsor letter. It sounded easy. Not! It turns out that their local parish needed them to "register" and they won't get the sponsor letter unless they were registered for at least a year or so. End of story, we managed to get the necessary papers and the christening went well.
Lesson learned, you have to participate on your local community. Amen!
