TakoYaki - Mitsuwa, Fort Lee, NJ

I love street food. Everytime I go out of the country, it is the first thing that I look for. For me, you can tell a lot from a place judging on the street food and eating along with the locals. Only in the US that street food were synonymous with unsanitary food since it is prepared outdoors.

We went again on our favorite food court, Mitsuwa and saw that there was a food fair. Most stalls were selling Japanese street food. There were some familiar ones like croquettes and sweet potato pie. There were also an unfamiliar one which is remind me of a fish ball but made of batter and chopped octopus. They called it Tako Yaki.

When we were at Madrid, I got hooked in tapas. One of my favorite was the Pulpo a la Gallega (Galician Octopus). From there on, I can't get enough of octopus. It taste similar to squid.

From the line on the food fair, I know I have to try this out. You won't really mind the wait since watching how to make those octopus balls seem interesting enough.

The ingredients seem simple but looking by the way these guys turning over each ball seem too tedious. Also, you have to buy the griddles to get that round shape.

Actually, it was pretty good. You buy it in a box containing 8 pieces for $7. I wish they have the stand all the time. It was just set up for the Memorial long weekend.
