Hearst Castle: Interior

Publishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst built his dream castle on a land that he inherited from his father in San Simeon, California. He had it designed in cohesion to most castles in Europe. The  facade look like a Spanish castle with Eastern influences and sides looked more a humbled Scottish castle. The interiors are a mixture of medieval designs. He built this castle, with no expense spared.

It was known that he bought almost everything from Europe through an auction. Most of those items were shipped to San Francisco and carted it over the hill in San Simeon.

Here are some select photos of the interiors of the manor:

The front entrance.

Mosaic floor in the main entrance

An intricate ceiling with an eastern influence.

The carved ceiling on the dining hall.

The dining hall that sits more than 20 guests.

Tapestry galore.

Indoor pool.

This is the best place in the house.

This house is so huge that they have 3 more tours that goes over the rest of the property. We just took the basic one just in case Madzie got antsy. Good thing she was trooper. There was also a kid her age, by the time we got to the main dining hall, the kid started to get bored and screamed his head out. Not to disturb the rest of the tour, the parents cut the trip short.

Just to mention a trivia, Hearst was the inspiration for the character in the Orson Welles movie - Citizen Cane.

Next posting will be the exterior shots.

Too bad the tour doesn't include a dip in the sweet indoor pool.
