Book Review #2: American Wife

American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld

StorySet in Wisconsin, you would follow the life journey of a shy librarian who had simple ambitions till she married a man from a well off family whose father was a former governor of the state. It was a roller coaster ride from trying to cope up with her husband's political ambition and his alcoholism.

The White House connection
The author did admit that the story is somewhat similar to the life of First Lady Laura Bush. The story doesn't detail any political campaigns, it hops and skips to major turnouts but it is more a narration of what is going on inside the family.
Love it or like it
I liked it. I was totally engaged from the time she was in high school all the way through her romance with a charming Charlie Blackwell, till we meet everyone from the Blackwell family. It reminds you of a prominent rich political family clan. Alice Lindgren grew up on a middle class Midwest background, watching the Blackwell clan spend their summers on a private compound that is similar to a country club. It has access to a lake, grounds and a private chef. Although it is not my favorite Curtis Sittenfeld novel, it sits second from her first one, Prep.
