The Spectacular Now

Once in a while I get some random movie on the library. It had simple theme of life of the party guy meeting a wallflower and had an unlikely relationship. I had a ball crying my eyes out on this one. It is hard not to get hit by nostalgia but it is nice to look back then when you think you are invincible.

The lead guy Sutter is a social butterfly. He is such a sweet talker that he can charm almost anyone. He met Aimee one day after a drinking binge that left him sleeping in the middle of the lawn.

They got to know each other and had started helping her out on her newspaper delivery rounds. In turn, she helps him out on his geometry class.

He becomes her prom date. And officially they are a couple. But the story didn't stop here.

The story got on the serious note when it came to the topic of what will happen after they graduate. Sutter didn't any plans of going to college. He is content on his present life of living on the present.

Both teens were raised by single parents. Sutter who was raised by his Mother asked to contact his Father who he hasn't seen and heard for a long time. The father agreed to see him and he drove 3 hours to meet and catch up. We would see that his father is the older version of what he would become 20 years from now.

It is a great coming of age movie. A lot darker than I expected. It has the themes of drinking, sex and everything else raging hormones. This is definitely worth a watch.
