9th Avenue Food Fest 2009 - New York, NY

This is our first time on the 9th Avenue food fest. There are so many food options for cheap and the experience can be overwhelming. The only downside was that you are forced to eat your food standing up. There were times that I just want to get away from the heat and the sun, take my time to eat my food but it can get frustrating when its time to chew on a big chunk of meat standing up.

The street fair is located a couple blocks away from Port Authority, the stalls start at 43rd street through 52nd Street. Most of the food stalls are from the restaurants lined up in 9th avenue.
Here are some of my favorite food scenes at the street fair:

This Argentinian stall has great food, we went for beef empanadas and a piece of skirt steaks for seconds. Their house green sauce, something cross between a pesto to salsa verde made a good combination. I look forward to try the rest of the menu.

The seafood stalls were also popular. I want to try the craw fish but it is just messy to eat it. It will be hard to enjoy it eating standing up. We ended up taking this to go.

The Latin fares were mostly meat grilled on a tall metal grill with huge chunks of meat hanging on the sides. Typical combo is $12, it comes with yellow rice, beans and plantains.

After biting on a chunk of meat, it turned out dry and uneventful. It is not something to tell home about.

Smoked turkey legs.

Bloomin' onion waiting to be deep fried.

Brazilian fare.

The desserts didn't disappoint as well, we drowned the heat by drinking at least 4 servings of Thai iced tea then randomly eating from baklava to frozen ice. The bread pudding from the Bread Factory was the best we had so far.

Southern pies.
Goodies from Poseidon Bakery, located 45th street and 9th avenue.

Goodies from the Bread factory.

Those are thai iced tea flavored, it also comes with other flavor like virgin mojito.

My tooth hurts by just staring at the candy apple selection. Those sweets are just a thing of beauty.
If you happened to be in NYC, try to visit the weekend street fairs. It is better to be there early about an hour or two before noon, once it gets crowded, the food lines at the stalls can get crazy.
